Library Audio Books
The library has about 600 audio books, most on CD, that can be checked out. There is also a small collection of adult books on cassettes.
A number of books and cassettes as well as books and audio CD’s are available in the children’s room, where children can follow along in the text as they listen to the story. Cassette players are available to borrow as well.
We are in the process of building an audio CD collection for our juvenile readers, who have graduated to chapter books. Suggestions for this collection are welcome.
Audio Books and ebooks can be downloaded onto a nook, kindle or other device with the 4 digit number assigned to you when you sign up for a library card. The Dr. Shaw Memorial Library subscribes to this service from the Maine State Library and it is free to our patrons. Access our account with the Download Library by typing in your 4 digit library card number.

LibriVox – Free public domain audiobooks read by volunteers from around the world. LibriVox audiobooks are free for anyone to listen to, on their computers, iPods or other mobile device, or to burn onto a CD. This site has a catalog and also a place where you can volunteer to read. Librivox is a non-commercial, non-profit and ad-free project.
- LibriVox recordings are Public Domain in the USA. If you are not in the USA, please verify the copyright status of these works in your own country before downloading, otherwise you may be violating copyright laws.
- LibriVox volunteers read and record chapters of books in the public domain (books no longer under copyright), and make them available for free on the Internet. Practically, this means we record books published before 1923. All our recordings (including yours, if you volunteer for us) are also donated into the public domain.
